Informatie over Andros

The island of Andros is the most northerly island of the Cyclades group and the second largest, covering 374 km². With the peaks of Petalo and Kouvara, highest point is known as Profitis Ilias 997 m. The island has four rivers that flow across the island from west to east through fertile green valleys. The Arni River flows out into the Bay of Levka, the Big River to the beach at Paraporti, the Achla River into the Achla Bay and the Double River into the Sineti Bay.

To the south east is Andros Town or Chora as it is known locally, the capital of the island and the second most important harbour. This is an attractive town with neo-classical mansions beside Cycladic houses, steep, narrow alleys lined with arcades, fine churches and two pretty squares in the centre of a town.

The beaches have fine white sand and small pebbles, some are so remote that they can only be approached by boat.
