Informatie over Ios

The Island of Ios lies on the southern end of the Cyclades, between Naxos and Santorini, part of the province of Thira. Its 1,600 inhabitants are mainly engaged in agriculture producing cereal, oil, vegetables and figs. Ios or Nios is said to be the burial place of Homer.

Its highest peak is Pirgos 713 m located in the centre of the island. The warmest months are July and August with an average temperature 28 C. Due to the northerly wind called Meltemi, the climate is cool. The natural harbour of Ormos is also know as Yialos among the locals.
