The Prefecture of Evritania is located in the centre of Greece
bordering with the Prefecture of Karditsa to the north, the Prefecture of
Fthiotida to the east and the Prefecture of Aitoloakarnania to the southwest.
There are about 24,300 inhabitants of the Prefecture.
Karpenissi is capital of the Prefecture and is located at the foothills of
Mount Timfristos, 960 m. In about the 12th century the area was covered in maple
trees and it is possible this led to its present day name. Karpen means maple
tree, so Karpenissi means land of maple trees. A thickly forested and
well-watered region with a forest cover of plane, fir and chestnut tress
creating a wonderful natural environment.
The Prefecture of Evritania seems to have been touched by a divine hand and
pulses with numerous scenic settlements of unique beauty. The scenic village of
Agia Triada, the mountain village of Domnitsa, the traditional village Krikello
and the tourist centre of Proussos adorn the landscape.
