Hydra is a famous meeting point for those who love art and there are
many galleries throughout the island. Artists at work may be encountered on the
sun-soaked hillsides, trying to capture the splendid light that illuminates all
of the Greek islands.
The island has a maritime tradition and this is reflected in Hydra Town with
colourful captains mansions lining the waterfront with the stark grey hill in
the background. Between the mansions there are narrow streets with tavernas and
shops leading to the small port of this charming island. No motorised vehicles
are allowed on the island nothing disturbing the gentle sea breeze.
Mandraki is a former Naval harbour located on the west side of the island.
Lots of small churches and monasteries are to be found as Prophet Ilias, Agia
Matrona and Agia Triada.
