Karditsa is located south west of Thessaly and borders the counties of
Trikala, Larisa, Fthiotida, Arta and Aitoloakarvania and has a population of
about 125,000. The longest rivers are Ahelos and Pineios and a dam has been
built, called the Itamos forming the lake Tauropos that supplies the
hydroelectric power station of the same name. There are also mineral water
springs, the best known are the spas of Smokovou, located 35 km from the main
town.
Apart from the undisputed natural beauty of the area, visitors can explore
