Nissiros is a small island of the Dodecanese group and is located
between Kos and Tilos. Nissiros is quite round in shape with an area of 41 km2
and a coastline of 28 km. The volcanic earth is fertile and parts of the island
has rich greenery. The main town of the island is Mandraki in the north.
One of the natural attractions of Nisyros is its volcano near the village of
Nikia, on the plateau of Lakki. It is an active volcano with a large crater,
steps offer access into the crater suggesting a moonscape with a hot surface and
thick vapour.
The beaches are both sandy and black pebbled of volcanic origin.
