Leros is an island of the Dodecanese group of islands in the Aegean Sea.
A land with rolling hills and small green valleys, picturesque small coves
lapped by the dark blue waters of its sea. Covering an area of 53 km² with 71
km of coastline.
Platanos isthe capital of the island and its port is in the village of Agia
Marina nearby. A second harbour is located to the west of the island at Lakki in
a deep natural gulf.
The characteristic Aegean island architecture with white houses and white
churches and red tiled roofs. The Medieval Castle stands imposingly on the
top of the hill overlooking the sea. Closeby are three windmills, characteristic
of the Aegean Islands. The village of Lakki is a fine example of the influence
of Italian-style architecture, evident in its houses, gardens and large streets.
The old Monastery pf Panagia Kyra dates back to 1300 AD and has some beautiful
frescos.
