Ithaki belongs to the Ionian Island group, has a surface area of 96 km2
and a population of 3,700. The island has several bays on its 101 km of
coastline. On the mountain slopes there are oak, cypress trees and beautiful
wildflowers, the lower plains have olive trees and vines.
The largest settlement is Ithaki Town or Vathi with its delightful red-roofed
houses set amidst enchanting scenery at the end of the closed bay of Molos. The
people of Ithaki are, as the rest of the inhabitants of the islands, polite and
hospitable, love literature, music and dance.
