Virgin Gorda is the second largest island in the British Virgin
Island. Of volcanic origin, it has a mountainous centre, and is primarily known
for its yacht clubs, quiet coves, and safe anchorages for bareboats.
It is vacationers' ideal destination to really relax. The climate is
typically Caribbean. At night, it is slightly cooler due to the trade winds.
Devil's Bay National Park, is one of the several parks given by the Rockefellers
to the British Virgin Islands' government in the 1960s.
The Baths is perhaps the most famous sight on the island. At the southwestern
end of the island, giant granite boulders are strewn along a shoreline of
stunning white, palm-lined beaches and clear turquoise waters. The boulders form
sheltered grottos and passageways between them. They are quite a spectacular
sight both for swimmers and snorkelers, who may spend days enjoying this
fascinating area. Other stunning beaches on the island such as Devils Bay,
Spring Bay, Trunk Bay, Savannah Bay and Mahoe Bay await you to explore
them.
Virgin Gorda offers a nice selection of bars and restaurants, ranging from
simple grilled foods to gourmet dishes. Nightlife on the island is limited but
best found at the casual pubs on the island where impromptu parties occur with
some regularity and visitors do not feel like strangers for very long at all.
