Zuid-Holland, South Holland, is a province located in the west on
the North Sea coast. Just behind the dunes are the fields of flower bulbs
including the world famous flower park Keukenhof.
In the spring the entire region is a veritable rainbow of colours. It is one
of the most densely populated and industrialised of the provinces of the
Netherlands. Neighbouring provinces are Zeeland to the southwest, Noord Brabant
to the southeast, Gelderland to the east, Utrecht to the northeast and
Noord-Holland to the north. The rivers and other bodies of water include Nieuwe
Maas, Nieuwe Waterweg, Oude Maas, Haringvliet, Hollands Diep.
This province contains the cities of The Hague which is the seat of the
government of the country and the International Courts of Justice, Rotterdam.
Leiden, with Delft and Gouda whose town centres have many 17th-century
buildings.
