Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor, a short 7 km away from the
international airport. At the height of the rainy season Siem Reap is a 12 km
ride away from the Tonle Sap Lake, the other main arrival point from Phnom Penh.
During the dry season the lake recedes and the journey becomes a little longer.
Siem Reap is close to Angkor and its mythical temples and for discovering the
other sights in the area as Lake Tonlé Sap, old Siem Reap village, the
markets, etc.
To the south of the modern city, Old Siem Reap Village has kept Cambodian
traditions with the traditional houses on poles and raft platforms. Fish dry in
front of the houses and life continues calmly to the rhythms of the season.
