The Democratic Republic of Vietnam is also known as North Vietnam,
was created by the partition of Vietnam in 1954 after the defeat of France at
the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. The Viet Minh took control of North Vietnam on
October 11, 1954.
The picturesque countryside of spreading lush green paddy fields are backed
by the steep mountains. On the northern border with China, the colourful and
lively culture of ethnic people coexists with their simple lifestyle amid the
stunning natural environment.
The elegant capital city of Hanoi is situated in a fertile land nourished by
the Red River giving life and culture to its population. This area is
believed to be the original hub of Vietnamese ancestry and its intriguing
civilization. Hanoi has been the cultural hub since the existence of ancient
Kingdom of Thang Long. In Hanoi, you can witness the surprising harmony between

temples and pagodas standing among the French colonial buildings of the town.
