Denizli in south-western Turkey is the capital of Denizli province,
located 110 km from the Aegean Sea. Denizli is primarily an agricultural city
with some light industry, particularly in cotton fabric production. Denizli has
major highway and railroad connections that provide easy access to almost any
major city in Turkey.
Denizli as a transit point for visitor to the nearby spa of Pamukkale and the
ruins of the town of Heirapolis, an ancient cure centre founded in 190 BC and
abandoned after an earthquake in 1334 AD. The Ancient City of Hierapolis, named
today as Pamukkale, astonishingly beautiful and unique with its white travertine
offering marvellous scenery. Dating back to the Calcholithic age, this was the
site of a settlement of the earliest communities becoming the centre of various
civilizations in different periods. The ancient city of Laodikeia is within the
borders of Denizli. In addition to Triopolis, known as the centre of
bishops during the spread of Christianity.
The wide forests and numerous picnicking and camping areas here contribute to
this natural and archaeological richness, while its position as a stopover
between the major provinces like Izmir, Ankara and Antalya, increases the
tourist attraction of Denizli. The thermal resorts also attract visitors to the
provinces with their spring waters of therapeutic effects Gemezli, Cezmeli,
Tekke and Kizildere are the main spa resorts, besides the thermal centres of
Pamukkale and Karahayit.
Denizli is the home to one of the strangest geologic shows in the world with
hot springs, limestone formations, bathing pools, culture and also the home of
the famed Pamukkale and the calcium covered cliffs. The destruction of the pools
