City of Edinburgh and council area, is a Royal Borough and the capital
of Scotland. It is located on the Firth of Forth. Leith has been part of the
city since 1920 and the Port of Edinburgh. The Old Town, on the slope of the
Castle Rock dominated by the Castle, a royal residence from the 11th century.
The New Town spread to the north in the late 18th century. The city is referred
to in Scottish legends and literature as Dunedin or Auld Reekie.
Edinburgh is one of the greenest and architecturally most beautiful cities in
Northern Europe and known as the Athens of the North. Its landmarks are known
throughout the world, from the magnificent Castle dominating the city skyline,
to the elegance of the Georgian New Town and the splendour of its Victorian
heritage.
Edinburgh is full of extraordinary architectural heritage and cultural
vigour. The Royal Mile, Calton Hill, New Town, The National Gallery of Scotland,

The Royal Mile is a succession of four streets -Castlehill, the Lawnmarket,
High Street and Canongate that link the Castle with the Palace of Holyrood
House, the Queen’s official residence in Scotland.
