Geschichte:
The first part of the word "Hugenpoet" namely "Hugen",
comes from the term sometimes still used in the region today "Huge"
which means toad. The suffix "poet" is synonymous with pool, puddle or
mire. Hence, "Hugenpoet" could be translated as "toad pool".
In times gone by there were once two farmsteads here called "Unterer
Hugendiek" and "In der Hugenpoet". When a moated castle was built
not far from these two farmsteads, it was given the name "Hugenpoet".
It was first mentioned in 778 as a Royal demesne for Charlemagne.
