Information about Poros

Poros is a volcanic island created by the joining of the islands of Kalavria and Sveria. The island is located very close to Argolida, in the Peloponnese, separated by a very narrow channel.

The island is so close to Athens that in a little more than an hour, you can be walking around the Acropolis, shopping in the flea-market, in Plaka looking for gifts or a nice place for lunch. An island that is a three-minute boat ride to the Peloponnese and places like Nafplion, Myceneae, Epidavros.

The ancient ruins of the Temple of Poseidon are 5 km from the main town on the road to the Monastery of Zoodochos Pighis. The Temple was built in the 6th c BC. Legend has it that Dimosthenis drank the "konio" poison here and then died.

The town of Poros is built in keeping with Greek island style in blue and white. There are numerous small islets with sandy beaches and pines almost stepping into the sea.
