Zakinthos, or Zante as it sometimes known, is an idyllic island with
emerald beaches, mountains covered in pine trees, wild flowers, caves,
traditional architecture, picturesque little streets with alleys and inhabitants
with a kind, hospitable spirit. Part of the Ionian Islands located in the west
of mainland Greece.
A mountainous island forming steep, inaccessible coasts on one side and sandy
beaches in the southeast. Green slopes combine with the orchards and the
picturesque coastal areas in majestic scenery. The main town of Zakinthos has
pleasantly arcaded wide streets, spacious squares with imposing buildings and
cheerful houses. The Museum of Post-Byzantine Art, on Solomos Square, contains
treasures salvaged from the island’s historic churches.
The Venetians called Zakinthos 'the flower of the east' has made a great
contribution to the the arts and culture from olden times. Zakinthos is a a
favourite tourist destination.
