The Hardap region is one of the two large southern regions bordering
Karas to the south. Stretching from the Namib Naukluft Park on the
Atlantic coast to Botswana and Kalahari in the east. Hardap is considered as an
administrative, economic unit and includes the magisterial districts of
Mariental, Maltahohe and the greater part of Rehoboth.
The area of Rehoboth is seen as significant growth region, especially in its
northern areas making an important contribution to the overall development of
the region.
This region does not have any significant mining activity, its focus is in
agriculture and small scale industry. The Hardap Dam area and along the Fish
River is suitable for irrigation farming.
With natural access to the Naukluft Park and Sossus Vlei via Mariental or via
Rehoboth, the south part of the Namib Naukluft Park has been included within
this area.
