Norway is Europe's great parkland, a dramatic mix of mountains, seas,
forests and fjords. While the country has tidy cities, historic buildings and
distinctive artists, nature is clearly its prime attraction. It is one of the
loveliest countries in the world, summer or winter and a prime travel
destination of Scandinavia.
The country has astonishing variety, the serene rural landscapes around Oslo
are nothing like the deep fjords along the western coast. The countryside along
the zigzagging roads to Bergen could not be more unlike the stark, barren land
around Alta or the sunny coves of the south coast.
June - September are the prime tourist months, unless you are going to ski.
Day temperatures are in the high 15-22° C with nights in the 10-15° C. The
midnight sun is best seen from mid May until the end of July. Keep in mind that
the farther north one travels, the longer the day, but the colder the
temperatures. If you decide to brave the freezing temperatures and visit during
winter, you can expect a magical experience with incredible snow - swept
landscapes and, if you are lucky, the famed northern lights.
