Bulgaria is a country in south-eastern Europe. It comprises a
considerable part of the eastern half of the Balkan peninsula. The northern
frontier of Bulgaria (with Romania) goes along the River Danube. The eastern
frontier follows the coast of the Black Sea from Cape Kartal to the source of
the River Rezovska.
The southern frontier (with Turkey and Greece) passes from the source of the
River Rezovska to the peak of Tumba. The western frontier goes from the peak of
Tumba to the source of the River Timok.
Bulgaria covers an area of 111,000 sq. km. The population is 8,291,000. The
official language is Bulgarian. The State is divided into 30 regions with 220
cities and 5,500 villages. The capital is Sofia and other large cities are:
Plovdiv, Varna, Rousse, Bourgas and Pleven.
