Buenos Aires province is the largest and most populated province of
Argentina. The capital is La Plata. The province has a population of 13,827,203
(2001), and covers an area of 307,571 km². Neighboring provinces clockwise from
the southwest are Rio Negro, La Pampa, Córdoba, Santa Fe and Entre Rios. The
city of Buenos Aires, located in the north of the province, is an autonomous
region and not part of the province. To the east of the province is the Atlantic
Ocean. The climate of Buenos Aires - oceanic and warm - is mild all year round. More European than South American in flavour, Buenos Aires' heart
boasts bustling streets, grand avenues, old-time cafes and stylish restaurants.
The locals are renowned for their flair and cockiness, even in times of
adversity. It's a city of tragedy and elation; a vibrant, cosmopolitan capital.
For the tourist, Buenos Aires delivers. Wander cobbled streets, marvelling at
faded architectural glories and colourfully painted metal houses. Talk world
politics and fútbol in atmospheric old cafes. Tuck into one of the
famous Argentinian steaks to power a long night's partying. Buenos Aires' air of sophistication and pride may have taken a serious
reality check in light of the country's ongoing economic and political turmoil,
but its people are no strangers to drama of this magnitude and the city remains
a safe, vibrant, cosmopolitan capital.
More European than South American in flavor, Buenos Aires' Microcentro
(downtown) heart boasts bustling streets, grand avenues, old-time cafes and
stylish restaurants. The porteños (locals), renowned for their flair and
cockiness, even in times of adversity, are suffering a collective bruised ego
these days. However, it is all just another part of the complex and extreme
Buenos Aires character, a history full of tragedy and elation, an ongoing drama
that the city's people are inextricably bound to.
Buenos Aires has always been famous for its incredible cultural offer.
Museums, cinemas, theatres and shows provide an unlimited variety of options for
entertainment. Dramas, musical comedies, “teatro de revistas” (a sort of
revue), guided tours and tango shows, are some of the proposals for all ages,
all the year round. Attractions and entertainment events have increased exponentially during the
last years in Buenos Aires. Important international chains, such as Cinemark,
Hoyt’s, Showcase and Village Roadshow, have established in the City.
Tierra Santa (Holy Land) is the first religious theme park in the world. More
than one million persons have already had the experience of treading Tierra
Santa, walking along its streets, discovering its architecture, meeting its
people and knowing about its customs. This provokes the unique sensation of
travelling back in time and allows the visitor to see the Jerusalem of Jesus
Christ’s times.
