Amman is the capital of Jordan, a very beautiful city with more than 1
million inhabitants. Founded on seven hills like ancient Rome as known in
ancient times, Amman, often referred to as ' the white city' referring to its
low stone houses, now is a modern city, where Muslims and Christians live
together. In the heart of the city, the Souk, is a colourful Arab market.
Amman offers a variety of historical sites complemented by gracious and
welcoming people. A good base for exploring the area: the ancient town of Salt,
the traditional villages of Fuheis and Kan Zaman, are less than an hour away -
feature traditional restaurants, handicraft complexes and picturesque streets
from a bygone age.
Summers in Amman, May to September, are hot and dry with cool evenings, the
coldest in December and January with an average temperature of 10° C. Rainfall
with an annual average of 25 centimetres, between November and March.
The Jordan Valley, below sea level and the Dead Sea, have warm winters and
extremely hot summers.
